Sandra Cifo is a visual storyteller who captures and documents the essence of human joys and struggles. She tries to see farther than just the physical appearance of people and objects and finds a feeling in them that she aspires to evoke on the viewer. She connects with the subject to tell a story that resonates with the world often evoking romanticism. She is a person that is very much in touch with emotions, and believes that this conveys into her work.
One of Sandra's biggest passions is to be able to help others and she strives to raise awareness, and make a difference through her photography. She often donates her work and time to various non-profit and NGOs around the world such as animal shelters and fundraisers for families and schools in need.
Who inspires her?
Geniuses such as her mom, Salvador Dalí, Philippe Halsman, Minor White, Man Ray, Guy Bourdin, Mario Giacomelli, Helmut Newton, Annie Leibovitz and Chema Madoz among many others.
People that have crossed the lines despite the rules of society and have made it in the creative world inspire her. Those who never give up despite the struggles that life throws at them. Feelings, negative or positive, they all evoke something that triggers an idea that becomes a doodle in a paper napkin somewhere, or a note on my iPhone, and that eventually takes form in the studios or the streets of my surroundings.
What makes her world?
A good photo shoot. An unexpected micro-moment that she gets to capture. Sunsets and sunrises. Music. Spain. Teaching kids her native language. Smiles. Hugs. Childhood memories. A good glass of Sangria with a good Paella. Family. Trips. The chance to cross the limits of what is acceptable and unacceptable in this society and be able to capture it with my camera. Naps under the sun. Discovering an amazing new artist or a great photograph. Meeting creative people. Learning.
“I am always mentally photographing everything as practice.” – Minor White
“I am always doing that which I can not do in order to learn how to do it” – Pablo Picasso
Sandra has shown her work in various galleries and locations through out San Francisco, San Jose, London, La Habana, and Madrid. Some of these include San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts and London's Somerset House.
